Secretary Update - Report A Match Official

Published on 8 November 2024 at 11:40

The league has noticed a recent increase in concerns raised by club officials, parents and referees relating to refereeing in junior football in the Selby & District Junior Football League.

Too many times this season ‘incidents’ have occurred over what is either fact or opinion when it comes to refereeing our league or cup matches. It’s worth noting that these incidents are predominantly between adults and the match official and not the children playing.

While the League is not responsible for monitoring or assessing the competence of a match official, the league committee is collectively in agreement that those tasked with being a match official are supported properly and, when standards fall short, are engaged with to understand why issues have arisen. We will fully support West Riding FA, who are the governing body for match officials in our League, in any outcome of an investigation into the conduct of a match official or those engaging with them.

To help with reporting issues quickly, please find a link below that provides a direct and quick way for everyone to report performance, attitude and general behaviour of a match official:

Without reporting referees’ quality of decision and their attitude towards the football being played, referees will not be checked and given help to improve.

Please feel free to contact Gareth or myself should you wish to discuss further.
